Nursery Nurse
Job Title: Senior Nursery Nurse
Responsible To: Nursery Manager and Deputy Manager
Responsible For: All the children attending Nursery and room staff.
Hours of Work: As per Offer Letter / Contract of Employment
Holiday Entitlement: As per Offer Letter / Contract of Employment
General Nursery Nurse Duties: To provide a happy and secure environment for the Children and staff. To supervise your room on a day to day basis. To work as part of a team with all other staff.
Nursery Nurse Specific Duties: To liaise closely with the parents and their children respecting and understanding their individual needs, and maintaining courtesy and confidentiality at all times.
To liaise closely with the manager, with regards to the
development of the Nursery.
To plan, carry out and evaluate daily activities for the children in your room, aiming to provide safe, stimulating and appropriate play and art activities which will promote social, emotional, physical and intellectual development.
To be responsible for the day to day running of you room.
- To motivate and liaise closely with your staff.
- To make sure that children are being well supervised at all times.
- To ensure that the children are being stimulated and that appropriate play activities are being delivered in respect of their age and ability. Consideration must be given to the individual needs of the child with regards to their race, religion and culture.
- To lead weekly planning meetings and co-ordinate the activities.
- To develop and maintain child observations and assessments.
- To deputise for the Manager or Deputy when the need arises. To answer the telephone in a courteous manner and answer clients questions.
- To be aware of banking procedures and the use of the computer.
- To ensure all fee collection and banking procedures are covered in the absence of the Nursery Manager / Deputy Nursery Manager.
- To record any accidents in the accident book, and report this to the manager and the child's parents/guardians.
- To administer first aid and medication where appropriate.
- To provide guidance and support to students who may train at the Nursery.
- To assist with parental visits.
- To ensure all relevant planning is up to date.
To attend training courses and other appropriate courses where necessary, at the Manager's request as and when required.
Ensure observation and adherence to Risk Assessments.
To assist in washing and toileting of children and to teach children to learn personal hygiene.
To prepare and serve Nursery meals as necessary.
To ensure that the Nursery equipment is cleaned regularly and maintained to a high standard.
To undertake any other duties and tasks which may be required by the Manager.
To read and observe the Operating Standards manual, and the Health and Safety Manual provided by The Dan Leisure Group.
Attend and participate in monthly staff meetings and occasional senior staff meetings.
Qualifications: Be appropriately qualified i.e. Diploma in Nursery Nursing, NNEB or NVQ Level 3 with at least two years experience in a Day Nursery. (Scotland - HNC or SVQ Level 3).
Be able to work as a member of the Nursery team as well as on your own initiative.
Have good communication skills, be assertive and to be able to deal sympathetically with parents.
Be able to keep confidentiality with regard to children, staff and parents. This is of the utmost importance.
Be flexible in your approach to the demands of your job.
Be enthusiastic, cheerful and have a sense of humour.
All CRB, Care Commission and other governing bodies forms are to be completed and cleared.
